Panama 1- Spontaneity

Yesterday at this time, I was eating a snack after I got home from school, with no thoughts about spring break swirling around in my head. I'm sure if I would have thought about it, I would have assumed I would work and hang out with friends during my week off.

But today (at this time), things have changed.

On March 18th, I will be hopping on a Delta flight southbound to Panama City for 15 days.

See, last night I got some spam from Travelocity about something, and it intrigued me. After messing around on their site a little, I saw a really good deal on airfare to two countries I wanted to visit: Guatemala and Panama. I ran down to the library to pick up some guidebooks. I did a few quick hours of research and this morning I bought my ticket.

Now, I'm hyperventilating, because it just sunk in. I really have no self-control when it comes to these things...

Pondering on my next trip...

After I returned from Peru, I watched the economy get worse and worse, and thought a trip in 2009 was out of the question. Luckily (at least for me), the economies of the rest of the world are in the shitter as well, which means I can still get a good exchange rate wherever I go. What's more is that fuel costs dropped dramatically, so plane tickets are a bit cheaper as well. So it looks like a trip this summer or fall is financially feasible.

Right now, I have a few ideas floating around. I have a couple friends that would like to go to Costa Rica or somewhere in Central America. We would have to go in the early summer (June) before the rains get too heavy. I am also considering heading back to South America, to either Colombia or Ecuador. I'd also like to visit Argentina or Chile one day, but I'd like to spend at least a month in those countries, which won't happen this year.

We'll see what happens in the coming months.
